Following his distasteful comment on ongoing snowstorms and power outages, a mayor in Texas on Tuesday decided to resign. Tim Boyd on Facebook had called for “lazy” locals to fend for themselves.
Boyd, the then-mayor of Colorado City, Texas said that “Quit crying and looking for a handout! Get off your ass and take care of your own family.” He made this statement of the city’s Facebook group.
Boyd in his Tuesday morning declared that he was about to hurt some feelings and then went on to rip anyone who might need help during the snowstorm, which left millions without power and resulted in at least 21 deaths across the southern U.S.
Dismissing the community aid as “socialist” in his lengthy Facebook rant, Boyd said “Only the strong will survive and the weak will parish (sic).” He further wrote that “Sink or swim, it’s your choice.”
Continuing his rant, the former Colorado mayor said “God has given us the tools to support ourselves in times like this and I’ll be damned if I’m going to provide for anyone that is capable of doing it themselves.”
