- Vaccination side effects are common
- The swollen lymph nodes can easily be mistaken for cancer
One of the side effects of Covid vaccination is enlarged lymph nodes. This usually occurs on the same side as where the injection is taken for instance the armpits.
The swelling was an after-effect that was evident during the trials of Pfizer and Moderna vaccination. However, the Johnson & Johnson Covid vaccine does not include swollen nodes as an after-effect of its vaccine. The FDA has approved Johnson & Johnson Covid vaccine as an emergency vaccine.
The swollen nodes however can be a confusing symptom for diagnosis as they may be mistaken for cancerous growth. It is therefore being advised that post-vaccination, people should avoid getting any kind of imaging tests done including mammograms.
In mammograms and imaging tests the swollen nodes appear as white blobs.
Before being taken in for any kind of imaging tests, it is also advisable for the staff to ask a patient if he or she has been vaccinated against covid recently.
