Prince Philip, the 99-year-old ex-Navy veteran and husband of the current serving monarch of UK Queen Elizabeth II, passed away peacefully on Friday morning. He was a constant presence by the Queen’s side and was involved in a lot of charity work.

Prince Philip held the official title of Duke of Edinburgh. He was a much-loved figure and was known for his no-nonsense attitude. He was also adored for the occasional comical mishaps.

The Duke of Edinburgh married Queen Elizabeth in 1947. They had recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. Queen Elizabeth called her husband  “her strength and her stay”. He was the head of the household though he played the role of the Queen’s consort in public.

Prince Philip had health issues and had retired from his public obligation in 2017. He and the Queen have been residing at Windsor Castle since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The couple have four children together. With the death of Prince Philip, it is being speculated if the 94-year-old Queen will think of abdicating the throne. However, royal experts say that there are few chances of this happening.
