The German government led by Angela Merkel on Sunday threatened to take legal action against laboratories that have failed and failing to deliver coronavirus vaccines to the European Union on time. This threatening comes at a time when the country has already started war of words with AstraZeneca over the same issue.
Germany’s Economy Minister Peter Altmaier said “If it turns out that companies have not respected their obligations, we will have to decide the legal consequences.~
He further said that “No company can favour another country over the EU after the fact.”
As stated above, in last few weeks the tension between European leaders and the British-Swedish pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca is rising as the pharma company has been lagging on promised delivers of its Covid-19 vaccine.
AstraZeneca said it could now only deliver a quarter of the doses as compared to what was originally promised to the bloc for the first quarter of the year citing problems at one of its European factories.
Meanwhile the vaccine-maker has been accused by Brussels of giving preferential treatment to the UK in the delivery of its vaccine, at the expense of the EU.
